Room to spread out, a mountain at your back, and the kind of quiet you can actually hear. We’re a working Karoo guest farm on the escarpment of the Nuweveld Mountains, 80 km west of Beaufort West and 60 km north of Leeu-Gamka.
Everything here is self-catering, so you set your own pace: a slow coffee on the stoep, a walk into the veld, a braai as the sun drops, and a sky at night that most people forget still exists.
Rooiheuwel is more than a farm — it is a life’s work, and a love story written into the land itself. High on the escarpment of the Nuweveld Mountains, where the Great Karoo opens wide and the night sky fills with more stars than you thought possible, Marge Vivier and her late husband, Flip, built this place together from little more than hard ground, patient hands and a shared dream. Theirs was the quiet, enduring kind of love — the kind measured not in words but in early mornings, long seasons and a lifetime of work done side by side. Flip has since passed, yet he remains present in every stone wall he laid and every path he walked, and the devotion they poured into this farm still lingers in its deep and gentle silence. Today it is Marge who welcomes you at the gate: warm and gracious, carrying their legacy forward with the same strength that helped build it. She opens Rooiheuwel to you so that you, too, might slow down, breathe deeply, and come to hear the steady heartbeat of the Karoo.
Every unit is self-catering and fully equipped, so you can come as you are and cook, braai and unwind on your own time. From a whole farmhouse for a big group to a stone house tucked high against the mountain, there’s a place here for the way you like to travel.
